Day 11 – our colourful day in Manahapa Temple and pre-school with Rev. Ragama and his community

Warmest Welcome

We received the warmest welcome today from Rev. Ragama and his community at Manahapa temple, Kuranagula where he, along with his community, began their Sinhalese and Tamil new year celebrations.

We were presented with palm leaves and flowers as we arrived and were treated to a flame throwing and acrobatic dance group from a local international school. The other activities included meeting the villagers, eating snacks and drinking coconut juice and then a tour of the recent volunteer accommodation to see the improvements that he had recently made.

Cave temple

Rev. Ragama took us to a local cave temple for a fruit and salad lunch which was offered up by the community and prepared for us. The temple is quite remote and it feels like you are in the middle of a jungle.

Krystyna’s arrival

Krystyna has now arrived from the UK to begin her week’s volunteering at the refuge tomorrow. She’ll be teaching the girls to weave using heddle looms and how to coordinate colour schemes.  I will go to the main WDC centre with Suzana and Gill and then along to the entrepreneurial women’s initiative cafe and shop called Sthree for some lunch and buy some gifts to bring home.

Further sponsorship – I’ve now reached 92% of my target. If you’d like to help me to help those who have various forms of need in Sri Lanka, whilst being assured every penny will get to those who need it, then please donate by clicking on this link. Don’t forget if you’re a tax payer to declare gift aid when doing so which will increase your donation by 25% at no cost to you. Alternatively, if you know of anyone or any organisation who may have an interest in this cause please share this blog link with them. And, if you’d like to get involved in anyway please get in touch with me at marciasummers@hotmail.com

Next up: a visit to WDC in Kandy to hand over donations from the UK
