First non big walking day today, but we managed to saunter a few kilometres around Kantalle tank, stopping at a roadside food seller for the unique to this region buffalo curd (fresher, richer, thicker and tastier than the yogurt we have at home).
Habarana Village
Arrived Habarana early afternoon and got settled into our new jungle resort before our elephant jeep safari. Charmara, our driver, told us how Habarana got its name – ‘haba’ for battle and ‘rana’ for field. It was the site of an ancient king of Anuradhapura and his brother’s bloody conflict in the 5th century AD. As we drove through the old battlefield we spotted wild elephants on the side of the road merging closely with human civilisation. Very exciting to get up so close to.
A highlight today for me was taking Mum’s engagement ring with the lost sapphire to a local gem workshop. They gave her 63 year old ring a good clean and I chose a new sapphire which they reset.

Surprise question!
How many men does it take to fix a broken safe in a hotel room?
Really enjoying your blogs Marcia! Love the elephants and loved the sunrise photos!
You’d love it Roxy ❤️
The ring looks beautiful and yes, all those men trying to fix a safe… hopefully it got sorted and maybe there were 7 of them?!
Great video – no elephant attacks this year quite a peaceful safari!
The trip looks amazing wish I was there x
Elephants were not as dramatic as last year! Wish you were here too Xx
