November 2022 update

In the news

Since June this year there hasn’t been much about Sri Lanka’s economic crisis in our news. However, the situation is still very serious. On 28 October The Guardian printed a sobering article on the impact the country’s crisis is having on children’s health and shows that continued efforts to raise awareness and funds to help families is needed as much as ever. Here’s the article if interested in a more detailed read: ‘Parents can’t afford meat, eggs and milk’: children bear the brunt of Sri Lanka’s economic crisis | Global development | The Guardian

Blog site revamp

You may have noticed my blog site is in the process of being updated? A student studying on a Digital course at my college is redesigning and upgrading it and using it as part of a coursework assignment of his. Thanks to Mario for streamlining it, making it easier to navigate, and it’s now looking sharper and more relevant too. What do you think?

Stage 2 trek – March/April 2023 – 1st leg for those who like maps!

This part feels super adventurous and very off the beaten track. It’ll include hill trekking, a wild safari, a visit to two Vedda villages where we’ll meet the tribal leaders and stay overnight at one of them.

Target – 74% raised so far

With the funds from Ebay sales over the past month, as well as the embroidery event this month, 74% of my £20,000 target (to achieve on completion of March/April 2023 trek) has been reached! I’m anticipating that by the end of December it’ll be 86% which will mean just £2,800 more needed between January and mid-April 2023 to achieve the target. Just a reminder that as funds are received, they are being immediately sent to support the various projects that have been identified.

In the meantime, Julie an ex-work colleague of mine, is continuing her weekly Zoom sessions supporting girls in a refuge in Colombo to build their confidence and resilience. She’s preparing them for their upcoming exams by doing grammar exercises and they’re sharing stories and poems with her. ‘Such a joy’, Julie said.
