Blog Number 2 – SETTING OFF!

After a day in and around Galle visiting Their Future Today (TFT) projects as detailed in yesterday’s blog, we began our trek towards Kandy from Galle Cricket ground at 7am this morning. We received a good send off from Mr Percy, TFT Country Director, Roshan Rojiitha, TFT Project Manager and Lecturer, along with 17 of his students.

Galle to Ahangama via the beach and road

We managed 13km today and got to our new accommodation by 2.30pm ready for a swim in a super long infinity pool. Monkeys and water buffalo were jumping and running around just a few meters away.

Through the eyes of a tourist

It’s been reassuring following the economic downturn in Sri Lanka that we feel fully supported by the transport, accommodation and the amazing friendliness and hopitality of the Sri Lankan people. Whilst for Sri Lanka the rupee has plummeted in value and is not good news for them at all, this makes it a very attractive destination for tourists as everything is about 50% cheaper than it was just a year or so ago: a dozen bananas, a large water melon, two large avocados and two coconuts came to £2.07; two pots of tea and one pack of chai tea and pack of mango tea only £3!

Just couldn’t resist this!

Feet!

Ultra runner friend and others gave us lots of advice on ‘feet’ before we left. So I’m putting it all to good use as you can see! Looks bad I know but the zinc oxide tape and compeed plasters are doing wonders. Long may this continue. 🙏
