FINAL PRE-TREK UPDATE …… AND WE’RE OFF…

Send off supper

Last weekend Their Future Today (TFT) organised a ’send off’ supper for Gill and me at Indian Zest in Sunbury and we had a fab evening. Lots of amazing friends and TFT supporters came along to share lovely food, our excitement and to wish us well.

Fundraising update

85% of my target now raised – that’s up 11% on last week’s update and a massive £8,500 – refer to blog of 1st March for the detail and how it’s being used to help those vulnerable to extreme poverty in Sri Lanka. As well as last week’s update here with a focus on the trek planning.

At the supper Lynn Stanier, Founder and CEO of TFT, announced that I was now their charity’s ambassador! She had previously asked me if I would accept this. This is a real privilege to me and I look forward to fulfilling this role in the best way possible. Here is my card with the Q Code link to my blog/website – if interested you can scan it!

Maps

If you’re a bit nerdy and like maps and would like to see our planned step by step route of our approx 250km trek (including up and over Adam’s Peak) then check out our Google maps:

Packing up

All that’s left now is adding any final bits to our rucksacks (around 10 kilos each) and then two massive suitcases (up to 30 kilos each) for distribution in Sri Lanka. These are filled with medical essentials, remaining heddle looms for the women’s refuge in Kandy, baby clothes for the orphanages and 100+ spectacle frames to take to a remote village so an optician can insert new prescription lenses. Thank you everyone who has donated these items for us to take out. We’ll keep you updated on where they land through this blog!

Further sponsorship – If you’d like to sponsor us on this trek whilst being assured that every penny will go to those who need it, then please donate by clicking on this link Marcia Summers is fundraising for Their Future Today (justgiving.com). Don’t forget that if you’re a tax payer to declare ‘gift aid’ when doing so which will increase your donation by 25% at no cost to you. Alternatively, if you know anyone or of an organisation that may have an interest in these causes please forward on to them.

AND please don’t forget to comment on my blog below. Xx
