Little Adam’s Peak
We’ve still been suffering the aftermath of climbing Adam’s Peak a couple of days ago with our thighs and calves throbbing when we walk up and especially down steps. We’ve named the physical manifestation of this as the Sri Pada shuffle! Gill’s become an expert at it!
However, we refused to let this stop us climbing Little Adam’s Peak in Ella yesterday which helped us stretch out our legs. However, it really cannot in anyway be compared to the real thing except both provide absolutely stunning views. What was great is that we woke up to baby Adam’s Peak from looking out from our hotel room balcony. It took us no more than 45 minutes to climb but the real thing took 3 and half hours.

Little Adam’s Peak and us at the top of it
Nuwara Eliya and Horton Plains
From Ella we went to Nuwara Eliya (known as Little England) which was cool, lush and green with a large lake and colonial type buildings. I thought it looked quite like the Lake District in parts. It was definitely very English looking. And it was raining!
4.30am rise today to visit Horton Plains National Park in the central highlands. We started walking at 6am as the sun was rising and it was quite spectacular. We discovered numerous waterfalls, colourful flowers, rocky hills and native creatures such as the mongoose, chameleon, sambar deer and Sri Lanka’s national bird, the junglefowl. It was more of a 4 hour saunter than a march that’s for sure as I’d twisted my ankle tripping on a step leaving our hotel at 5am and Gill was still suffering with the shuffle!

Great pictures. Despite the difficulties, it must be such pleasure walking in a scenery like this! You ladies are doing the right thing,
in the right place. The hill with my son’s name is really appealing to me to walk up some day…
Yes it is amazing – definitely come but if you’re climbing Adam‘s Peak make sure you’ve climed some hills beforehand otherwise you’ll ache for days!
Shuffle, hobble, saunter, canter or just walk – both of you are doing so well. Keep it up. NE is a gem,!
You guys rock. Sounds a tough walk up that hill? (Mountain!)
